The Lord-Lieutenant, Viscount De L’Isle, opened Aesica Pharmaceuticals, the global contract development organisation’s (CDMO) new High Capacity Manufacturing Facility, at the Queenborough site. It will be producing a solid dose medication for the treatment of one of the world’s most common lifestyle diseases, type 2 diabetes in adults.

Speaking at the opening, Lord De L’Isle said “Aesica’s further £30 million investment for Swale is to be welcomed by Kent, and will contribute to the county’s growing knowledge based economy, which we must see as the future if Kent is to prosper”.

Production at the plant will begin in November with 55 locally recruited and trained staff. The design of the facility will allow for capacity to be more than doubled, increasing the work force by another 50 employees as the business expands. Most of the output will be exported in bulk for packaging and distribution in the country of its destination.
