Kent Fire and Rescue Service 2018 Awards Ceremony, Maidstone, 2nd October 2018
The annual Kent Fire and Rescue Service awards ceremony highlights the bravery, dedication and long service of some extraordinary people. This year the Service, at Oakwood House, Maidstone, welcomed Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant, The Rt Hon Sir Hugh Robertson KCMG DL, who represented the Lord-Lieutenant at the event to present the Long Service and Good Conduct Medals on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, to local firefighters.
Being able to mark such notable public service is a privilege, brought home by hearing about some of the very major fires and emergency incidents that these people have worked at over the past two decades. It is also a chance to meet their family members, whose wonderful support has made such a difference.
In addition the ceremony provided the chance to highlight exceptional actions of Kent Fire and Rescue Service staff, both on and off duty. It also showcased the actions of members of the public for their courage, selfless action and quick thinking. This included acting to rescue neighbours from fires, stopping to provide first aid and support to people in road traffic collisions and providing emergency first aid that literally saved lives.
