Age UK Canterbury AGM, Canterbury, 1st June 2019
Mr Stephen Kingsman DL will represent the Lord-Lieutenant at the AGM of Age UK Canterbury to be held at the Age UK Centre in Castle Row, Canterbury on 1st June 2019 at 14.30.
Age UK is an independent charity working in Canterbury to offer support and services to older people. The services started after the second World War, when volunteers ran a lunch club for older lonely people under the name ‘Older People’s Welfare’. By 1970, there were multiple lunch clubs throughout the week, the organisation employed its first ‘Area Organiser’, became an Age Concern and moved to its current building located on Castle Row. Between 2001 and 2006, Age Concern Canterbury raised money in order to refurbish the whole building and now offers a Day Centre, a secure Dementia Unit and numerous drop-in and outreach services, including a Foot Clinic and a Meals at Home Service.
