The Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Viscount De L’Isle, presented the trophies to the winners of the forestry and conservation awards at a CLA reception during the Kent County Show. Bean primary School - nominated by Chris West. The award was collected by Lisa Packham and two pupils, pictured with the Lord-Lieutenant, centre. Lisa gave up her time to sell the school packs at lunch time and is always happy to help at the poppy appeal. Over £373 was raised from this primary school, noted as one of the best schools in the area. (c) The Royal British Legion.

Mascalls Detatchment D Company, Kent Army Cadet Force - nominated by Mrs Linda Slade. The award, presented by the Lord-Lieutenant, was collected by Brian Hallums and a cadet from the detachment. Always willing to aid any organisation that needs help, during poppy time the Detachment raise funds for the whole 2 weeks and parade on Remembrance Sunday and lay on free refreshments for all after the parade. They have now taken on caring for local war graves and keeping the war memorial area clean in the centre of Paddock Wood. (c) The Royal British Legion.

T.S. Churchill – Ashford Sea and Royal Marine Cadets – nominated by Nikki Cain, the award was collected by Captain John Lewis and a cadet who are pictured either side of the Lord-Lieutenant. The sea and marine cadets have consistently assisted the appeal by both collecting and counting money raised. On their 75th anniversary it is appropriate they are thanked for all their help and enthusiastic support. (c) The Royal British Legion.

New memorial tablet unveiled to mark 100th anniversary of the bombing of Folkestone - the first ever air raid from aeroplanes on Britain. Descendants gathered at The Garden of Remembrance in Sandgate Road, Folkestone. (c) Hattie Miles.
